Testing is the process of determining whether a model works and
is useful in a real or simulated environment.

Testing may also be used to examine characteristics of a model such as its efficiency, soundness, effectiveness in a specific situation, functionality, practicality,  and feasibility.

Testing is done in order to obtain information for clarifying or modifying a design.

In addition to examining models, testing can be used to examine:
component parts, systems, products, and points of view.
